2026-08-25 — "an empty prize counter" came back as a tool bench

First pass, prize-wall-unconfigured. Justin: "the prize wall looks like a tool bench."

The brief's own words were "An empty prize counter", and the model reached for a pegboard with hooks on a flat bench — which is workshop vocabulary. Hooks, pegboard and a bench say garage in every context, and an empty one says garage even harder, because emptiness removes the only thing that would have said otherwise.

The failure is in the reference, not the rendering. "Counter" is ambiguous — a kitchen counter, a shop counter, a workbench are all counters. Nothing in the piece told the model WHICH.

Attempt 2 then came back as a HOTEL RECEPTION. Justin: "that looks like a hotel counter. It's a video arcade." My re-brief had added a service bell — the single strongest hotel signal there is — and kept using the word COUNTER, which pulls toward a reception desk in every context. I fixed the workshop reading and walked straight into a different wrong room.

Two misses, one cause: I kept naming furniture and hoping the room followed. The key is prize-WALL. In a video arcade that is the tiered wall of shelves where plush hangs under ticket-value cards, with neon trim — there is no desk and nobody stands behind it. Attempt 3 describes the arcade and bans the two rooms it already produced by name.

The fix, and the rule: name the room, not the furniture. docade is an ARCADE, so this is an arcade REDEMPTION counter — empty display shelves, a service bell, small blank price-tag cards, a hanging sign shape. Every one of those says "things go here and there are none yet."

Generalises to every empty state in this lane: an empty thing is identified by the objects around it, because the thing itself is missing. A prize wall with no prizes has only its context left to say what it is. Where a brief names a generic container — counter, shelf, jar, board — say what KIND before rendering.

Ban the wrong answers explicitly once you have seen them. A negative list built from actual failures is worth more than any amount of positive description: after two passes this piece's brief names service bell, desk, countertop, reception, pegboard, hooks, tools, workbench, wood grain, beige as forbidden. None of that was guessable up front — it is the shape of the misses, and it only exists because the misses happened.
